lyrics

The mountains of madness

There is more to this world
Than what we can perceive
Horrors unseen that destroy the human psyche
Unravelling minds

Dreams haunted by what should not exist
Some secrets were not for us to discover
Just like pandora, that box was closed and should've remained that way

Cannot escape that shadow in my mind
My soul was cursed by those piercing eyes
If I could go back and relive that day
I would have turned back and kept my sanity

It was an expedition
Braving the blistering cold
Making first tracks in a land long forgotten
Untouched by the modern world
And what we found encased in ice will remain etched in our brains till we die

Reporting our findings
The line was dead except a static hiss
For now alone in this cold abyss
Returning back to camp
To find the floor riddled with their corpses
Pools of blood and limbs torn apart
A sign for us to depart with still beating hearts

We make our way step by step through thick Antarctic snow
In the distance mountains reaching up for heavens glow
What appears to be a city on the horizon

The air is thick with the stench of fear of the unknown horrors we may find there

Monolithic ancient structures unlike anything we have seen
Scribed with a long forgotten language and images of fathomless alien forms

Too late to turn back now
Or the deaths of our peers would have been in vein!

There is more to this world
Than what we can perceive
Horrors unseen destroy the human psyche
Predating human kind

Dreams haunted by what should not exist
Some secrets were not for us to discover
Just like pandora, that box was closed and should've remained that way

Cannot escape that shadow in my mind
My soul was cursed by those piercing eyes
If I could go back and relive that day
I would have turned back and kept my sanity

Unhallowed monstrosities
Once laid claim to this world
Fighting each other for all dominion over of their creation
Lay in waste like this city they left behind
I cannot fathom all that I have seen
Yet the feeling like I'm being watched by this cursed city

Shadows grow to engulf the day
Clouds move in to extinguish the suns last rays
Gelatinous forms that are littered with eyes
Flaying tendrils and their rancorous cries
At that point I knew that there is no god!

There is no god!

There is no god!

We must escape
And not look back
But in a morbid curiosity
I gazed back to the mountains of madness
The mountains of madness...
